What is the Traws Eryri?

Big climbs and challenging trails that push your limits and reward with spectacular views and sense of achievement. A focus on the best and most scenic segments of the Traws Eryri Route, ensuring an unforgettable riding experience.

The Traws Eryri runs the length of Snowdonia, a 124-mile (200-km) multi-terrain trail linking Machynlleth and Conwy launched in 2023 by Cycling UK and Natural Resources Wales.

From enticing lost lanes meandering through valleys to forest tracks or moorland trails climbing up to misty mountains, the fantastic landscapes of North Wales are just begging to be explored by bike. Cycling UK has worked with Natural Resources Wales to create the Traws Eryri (Trans Snowdonia) trail, an off-road adventure route which links up some of the best riding in Eryri.

Weaving its way through the lesser known spots of Snowdonia. The Traws Eryri route takes in the  Mawddach estuary, Coed y Brenin forest and the incredible offering of Gwydir before the more northern parts of North Wales’ slate mining heritage. The Traws Eryri offers 4424m of ascent – not for the faint hearted and four times the height of Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa as it is now known.

Natural Resources Wales and Cycling UK suggest four days to complete the route. Bike Ranch Snowdonia can offer it to you in two. We understand time is precious and most of us are limited to weekends, keeping our annual leave for family holidays. Want to tick off the Traws Eryri? Come and ride it with us over two days, and keep the boss (and family!) on side!

The Traws Eryri has taken three years to create, engaging local communities and off-road enthusiasts to understand their views on what the route could achieve to the wider biking world. It has also taken some negotiation with landowners to agree new accessibility for certain sections of the route to make it the best possible offering for riders.
